GIFTS TO OUR PARK LIBRARY Greetings! The following materials are gratefully accepted in our Park Library's print and multimedia collections. * From Jo Bass comes an 8 hour tape she made of these two video programs "Feeding the Beast: The 24-hours News Revolution." This is a production hosted by Linda Ellerbee summarizing many of the changes in news reporting & editing. Highlighted are some of the more dramatic episodes. For example, it demonstrates that the rush for news and ratings has changed the traditional journalists balance, putting far more emphasis on reporting and far less on editing. " Journalists: Killed in the Line of Duty." This video was produced with the cooperation and resources of the Committee to Protect Journalists. Forty-six reporters lost their lies on the job between January 2002 and April 2003. Of these six are profiles. They include Edgar Damalerio (Philippines), Raffaele Ciriello (Ramallah), Tim Lopes (Brazil). * From Anton Zuiker comes a CD titled "HIV Positive Voices: An inside Look at the AIDS Epidemic in Baltimore." Running time 29 minutes. Also a gift from Zuiker is a CD titled "A Closer Walk" depicts the confrontation with global AIDS epidemic filmed during 2003. Subjects and story lines encompass the broad spectrum of the global AIDS experience and include people with HIV/AIDS from all walks of life. The film's basic themes focus on the underlying causes of AIDS, the relationships between health, dignity, and humanrights; and the universal need for action, compassion, and commitment to counter what has become the worst plague in human history. Glenn Close and Will Smith are the film's narrators. * From Lois Boynton comes nine issues ranging from 1990 to 2002 of Public Relations Strategist and Public Relations Quarterly. This gift helps fill in the missing issues from our Library's bound volumes. A major step toward protecting the integrity of our serials' collection. Boynton also donated two copies of "Profiles in Ethics" published ini 2004 by the Institutional Members of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics. * From JoMC alum, David Zucchino, comes his book published in 2004, "Thunder Run: The armored Strike to Capture Baghdad." This book will be added to our Spearman alumni authored collection. * From Stephanie Elizondo Griest comes her 2004 book titled " Around the Bloc: My Life in Moscow, Beijing, and Havana." Ms Griest has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Latina magazine, and the Associated Press. * From Bernard M. Timberg comes a copy of his 2002 book titled, "Television Talk: a History of the TV Talk Show." The book has an extensive index and detailed chapter sources. * Dean Cole donated a copy of an executive summary of the report produced by the Project for Excellence in Journalism titled "State of the News Media, 2004." The full report can be found at http://www.Journalism.org. * From Phil Meyer comes a copy of Robert G. Picard's 2003 report, "Strategic Responses to Media Market Changes." * From Post and Courier editorial page editor, Charles R. Rowe comes this 2003 book, "Pages of History: 200 Years of the Post and Courier." Rowe was a reporter for The Durham Sun newspaper in the 1970s and early '80s. * From Speed Hallman comes a copy of the Wall Street Journal's 2003 Pulitzer Prize winning articles on the corporate scandals of 2002. More good news to follow. Best regards, Barbara Subject: Average Salaries of Full-time Faculty in 2003-4 Academic Year. Survey of 1,343 U.S. Colleges and Universities Greetings!
