Remarks Upon Receiving the |

August 7, 2001 One of the most rewarding experiences in life is discovering that one can earn a living doing what one loves to do. That is certainly true for me. It is also
true that this happy state of affairs came from the good efforts of some
extraordinary folks at the University of North Carolina School of Journalism
and Mass Communication.
Special recognition must be made of my husband, John Semonche, who is with me here today. Jack is a professor of history at UNC-CH, a published author, a constitutional lawyer, an aspiring playwright, and a wizard at creating multimedia educational programs. He’s also the best researcher I know. However, I emphasize that he is not available for interlibrary loan! My heartfelt thanks go to Prof. Mary Alice Shaver for nominating me for this Blum Award. I salute Eleanor Blum for her outstanding contributions to mass communication bibliography. She remains a champion for all of us in this field. I’m genuinely grateful to AEJMC for the Blum Award and will treasure it. Thank you all. |
