SLA Fellow Annual Meeting
June, 10 2001 Minutes
San Antonio, Texas

The Fellows met on Sunday, June 10, 2001 during the annual SLA conference in San Antonio, Texas. The new Fellows were introduced and initiated into the group (ie: they received their new Fellows pin from Stephen Abram). In alphabetical order they are:

Everyone thanked Stephen Abram for creating the pin and funding the cost. They're a delight to have! [Note: The pin's design was selected by the SLA Fellows from a series of logo images created by UNC-Chapel Hill graphics arts grad student, Flora Garcia. The original purpose of the design was to serve as the logo for SLA Fellows' newsletter. At the time, Didi Pancake was the newsletter editor. Ms. Garcia currently is the Director of Internet Operations at Time, Inc. in New York City.]

Gloria Zamora reminded us to be sure to attend this afternoon's first-timers reception. The format will consist of a panel comprised of four Fellows and four first-timers. There will be short explanations given by each panelist and then it will be opened up for questions & answers amongst the panelists and the audience.

There was a lively discussion about the use of the term, "Fellow" as it was also used during SLA's Global 2000 Conference. The question was about any possible confusion resulting as two different groups within were using the same term. There were several alternative terms suggested for future delegates, such as "global associates", "special international delegate", "ambassador", "consul". It was noted that Sylvia Piggott is the chair for the International Conference 2002 in Los Angeles, California.

Respectfully submitted for your review,
Your humble new Fellow,
Cindy Hill ;)
