Chapter Chronology (1966-1996)

        September 21, 1965:     Organizational meeting in Durham

        January 20, 1966:   North Carolina chartered as 34th chapter of SLA

        April 6, 1966:  First officers installed --

    Richard C. David, President
     Charles Kip, First Vice-President
    Robert Betts, Second Vice-President
    Darlene Ball, Recording Secretary
    James G. Baker, Corresponding Secretary
    Edwina D. Johnson, Treasurer

        July 26, 1966:  First regular meeting held in Greensboro

        October, 1966:  First Bulletin issued -- North Carolina Chapter News

        July 29, 1967:  First Continuing Education program held in Chapel Hill --
                    Introduction to Data Processing for Special librarians

        1973:   Sara Aull joined the Chapter
        1975-83:     Sara Aull was ditor of the Bulletin

        1975:  SOLINET available in North Carolina

        April 5, 1976:  10th Anniversary of NC/SLA observed in Durham

        1978:  Social issues came to the front -- Equal Rights Amendment

        November 1978:  Liquor by the drink approved in North Carolina

        1981Sara Aull Student Paper Award Competition was launched

        April 11, 1986:  20th Anniversary of NC/SLA observed in Raleigh       

        1989:  Three new Chapter awards created --

        1991:  Academic Relations Committee debuted

        April 6, 1991:  25th Anniversary observed in Research Triangle Park
                        SLA Executive Director David Bender and SLA President Guy St. Clair attended

        June, 1992:  Edward G. Holley, former UNC-CH SILS dean, was proposed as Honorary Member of SLA

        March, 1994:  Chapter listserv, (NCSLA@listserv.oit.unc.edu) launched on the Internet

        January 26-31, 1995:  Chapter hosts SLA Winter Meeting in Raleigh

        December, 1995NC/SLA Bulletin established on the World Wide Web --
                            "The Webbed NC/SLA Bulletin
