Public Access to Newspaper Collection |
|
1. Members of the public are welcome to visit our Park Library and read current newspapers that we subscribe to. Here is a list of newspapers in our collection. 2. It is not possible for The Park Library to save or hold or mail or fax newspapers for anyone. 3.Photocopies of newspaper articles, ads, obituaries, etc., are possible only if members of the public have a UNC Photocopy card with sufficient money to use our Library's photocopier. The debit is 10 cents per page. These photocopy cards are available only at the UNC Student Stores. Our photocopier works only with these UNC Photocopy cards; cash will not work. 4. The Park Library requests that all patrons observe the time limits on newspapers shelved. The times vary from about one week for large daily newspapers to about 3 weeks for non-daily community papers. After that period we do not store them; these older newspapers are recycled. 5. Newspapers come to our Library by first class mail yet many frequently arrive several days to a week or more behind date of publication. Further, holidays also delay timely delivery. Finally, it is important to remember that during the summer months (June, July, August) The Park Library reduces the number of newspapers it subscribes to. Most non-daily NC newspapers are not received during this period. 6. No print newspapers are stored or archived in our Library beyond the one to three week shelving period. The Park Library does not have any North Carolina newspapers on microfilm. The North Carolina Collection in Wilson Library does have a number of North Carolina newspapers on film, but I'm not certain if it has all of them. Please consult the UNC Online Catalog for a listing of North Carolina newspaper holdings by title. Be advised that not all NC newspapers are microfilmed. 7. The Park Library is located on the second floor of Carroll Hall. If your Chapel Hill Public Library is directing anyone here, please give them clear directions or a map. 8. For online access to North Carolina newspapers visit NC Press
