M.J. Crowley, director of news research at the Newark, NJ Star Ledger, recognizing her family, staff, and colleagues  (aka as "suite sweets"), and recalling her experiences  at past News Division conferences as she  accepts the Joseph F. Jody Habayeb, Director Tampa Tribune's Archive & Research Department and chair of the News Division, is the 2002 recipient of the Ralph Shoemaker Award of Merit. Her remarks, including a riotous description of a research effort to discover the authenticity of the  mysterious appearance of actor James Dean's tombstone.	Hannah Sommers, a recent graduate of the University Texas at Austin, is the 2002 recipient of the News Division's Vormelker-Thomas Student Award. This  award is supported jointly by the News Division and ProQuest.
