RICHARD P. HULSER

Since December 1, 2003, Richard P. Hulser is Senior Manager, Digital Initiatives, Amgen Libraries at Amgen, Inc. in Thousand
Oaks, CA. Prior to that time, Hulser was content development director with Infotrieve and has over 20 years of international experience in information management. Prior to joining Infotrieve in August 2000, he held a variety of positions at the IBM Corporation, including senior research librarian, technology strategy planning consultant, and digital technologies product marketing manager. Before joining IBM, Hulser was library director at Lorenzo Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.

He has been a candidate for president of SLA, named a Fellow of SLA in 2000, and served on the SLA Board of Directors as Division Cabinet chair. He has held a variety of other elected and appointed positions in SLA, including President of the Connecticut Valley Chapter, Chair of the Science-Technology Division, and convener and founder of the Information Futurists Caucus and the Gay & Lesbian Issues Caucus. He has been a member of SLA since 1982 and a member of his local SLA chapter in the various cities where he has resided since that time.

As a frequent workshop leader and presenter at a variety of professional association meetings, Hulser has focused on topics such as content management and portal technologies, copyright in the digital world, strategic technology planning, and the future use of technology for content and knowledge management. He has authored a number of articles and book chapters related to technology use in libraries and information centers.

Hulser is a member of the Information Futures Institute, has been active in other professional associations such as ASIS and LITA, and has been the IBM Delegate to the Coalition for Networked Information. He earned a B.S. in earth & space sciences from the State University of New York at Stony Brook; M.Ed. in instructional media from Utah State University, Logan, Utah; and M.A. in librarianship & information management from the University of Denver, Colorado.

Guest lecturer at many universities and colleges in the U.S. and worldwide.

Other Awards & Honors: MCI Cybrarian of the Year judge (1998); Association of Records Managers and Admistrators Scholarship (1983); member, Beta Phi Mu, Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education Fraternity, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
