Tim Rozgonyi is the Assistant Technology Systems Editor at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. In this capacity, he is involved in virtually all aspects of the editorial department operations that are technology related. His training as an information professional (MLIS from the University of Hawaii at Manoa) assists him in the process of facilitating the use of information technology within the newsroom of the Post-Gazette, as it assisted him in his previous position of Director of Information Services, within which he oversaw the operation's of the P-G library.
Current projects include the installation of a new pagination system from CText and an image archive system from Cascade and Applied Graphics Technologies. It is an exciting and demanding time.
While his current responsibilities preclude Tim from attending the SLA annual conference, he is still very much interested in the topic of database quality control, as well as many of the issues that confront news information professionals today. He often expresses his views in colorful postings to the NewsLib mailing list, which has become a vital center for networking and discourse for thinking people involved in the use of information technology.
Tim previously served as the Librarian at the Graphic Arts Technical Foundation, a printing industry trade association based in Pittsburgh.
A quick search of an online database will pull up some of the articles Tim has written over the course of his professional career. Tim has been a member of SLA for about ten years and a member of the News division for about six.
Tim lives in Penn Hills, PA. with his wife (Anne), two daughters (Katie and Kelly) and two dogs (Ursa and Snowflake). Ursa is a Dalmatian, a breed which, like Tim, has a certain reputation. Tim urges you all not to judge him or his dog on reputation alone.
