Here is an opportunity to view a video about "The SLA Mentoring Experience." It was scripted in September 1998 by Barbara Semonche, chair of SLA's Student Academic Relations Committee and produced by Prof. Richard Simpson, both affiliated with UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Sunsite technician Todd Stabley masterminded the digitizing of the 9 minute 50 second video into files for web viewing.
The video is offered in three connections, 28.8 and 56.6 modems as well as T-1 or better connections. You may click on the one best suited for your machine. The 28.8 and 56.6 files have smaller screen sizes and a corresponding loss of video and audio quality. The T-1 file is suitable for high-speed, high-capacity multimedia transmission. However, if your computer is in a network that endures heavy traffic, the quality may suffer. You may experience breaks in the audio and problems with video transmission.
[Note: If you have not yet added streaming audio/video to your computer, go to this web site for RealAudio and select the "Free RealPlayer G2" for downloading to your computer. Follow the directions and you should be ready soon to view this video.]

If you are interested in how the taping looked here on the UNC-CH campus, the photos below should help you "get the picture." I'm greatly indebted to Tom Cox, Manager of UNC-CH's Video Services in the Office of Information Technology, Dick Simpson, UNC-CH professor of broadcast technology, audio technician Andy Brawn, and MetaLAB/SunSITE's Todd Stabley. I am also keenly appreciative of Edmonton Sun (Canada) library director, John Sinclair, for his encouragement and expert knowledge in undertaking this video digitization project. He is truly a leader in this field.
