                   Donations and Gifts to
                  The Park Library

                 Books, Dissertations, Serials
               (journals, and magazines)

All these materials are on reserve; they do not circulate outside of our Park Library. They are not available via interlibrary loan. To locate these materials, search the UNC-CH Online catalog. Enter the titles, subject headings or key terms for desired materials and then note the Park Library call number(s) from the list of materials displayed. Our Library staff will retrieve the materials for you to use in our Library. Our Library stacks are closed to all but Park Library staff.

                  Spearman Collection of
               Alumni-Authored Books

Our Park Library showcases these JoMC alumni-authored books in our Spearman Collection. [Note: JoMC faculty-authored books are also showcased, but in a separate display cabinet.] This faculty-authored book collection is located outside the Park Library's entrance in one of our handsome, lighted display cases. While we have acquired a substantial number of these books, we do not yet have a complete collection. Naturally, we are interested in acquiring as many of these special books as possible. As with our other materials, alumni-authored books do not circulate outside our Library.

Consider this a plea for a gift of book(s) alumni have currently or previously authored to our Park Library. If you are uncertain if our Spearman has your book(s), you can search the UNC-CH OnLine Catalog. Here's how to discover what our Park Library has in its Spearman Collection:

1. Open this URL http://www.lib.unc.edu
2. Click on "UNC-Chapel Hill Catalog"
3. In the "Select Search Type" pop-down box, choose "Call Number"
4. In the "Enter Search" box, type SPE-alm
(That unique Park Library call number stands for
"SPEarman - alumni authored books")
5. View the results, but be advised that a few titles in our Spearman alumni Collection may not be in this ONLine Catalog. That happens because our Library has the only copy. In such a case, you may have to personally check this Collection in our Library to verify that your book(s) are indeed included. Or contact the Park Library Director Barbara Semonche.

                          Newspapers

Our Park Library has only a selection of North Carolina newspapers in print format. The daily papers are kept for about one to two weeks and then recycled. The non-daily newspapers are kept about three weeks. Articles from these papers may be photocopied, but not clipped. We do not have microfilm of North Carolina newspapers; you can locate this resource at the North Carolina Collection in Wilson Library on the UNC-CH campus. Note that not all North Carolina newspapers are microfilmed. Our Library does not subscribe to international newspapers.

                North Carolina Media Archives

              PhD Dissertations, MA Theses,
               Undergrad Theses
, Videos

These materials do not circulate outside our Park Library. They can be read in our Library or viewed in our Library’s multimedia lab. Check with our Library staff about how to locate them for reading room use.

                              Photocopier

Our photocopier does not accept coins. Printing documents is possible only by UNC One Cards. However, visitors and guests can get photocopy cards by checking with the campus Student Book Store. These cards word much like a debit card; money is credited to the card and when used in photocopying on campus, each page copied is debited at a rate of $.10.

                                  Printers

Printers also require a UNC One Card. Visitors and guests may get a temporary photocopy card at UNC-CH Student Stores for a fee.

                           Internet Access

All our computers are controlled by UNC-CH student/faculty/staff ONYEN account numbers. Email and web access is not available to visitors and guests without ONYEN numbers. Check with our Library staff about where on campus visitors can find open access to the Internet. Personal computers (laptops) can be used in our Library.

                           Reference Service

Our Library staff has a range of services it can offer to visitors and guests. Please let us know what your research questions are and we’ll do our best to help. We have maps, directories, catalogs, databases (including Bloomberg's Financial Services), reference books here in our Library, plus we have connections with other libraries on campus who can offer further assistance.
