Larry Wright, right, receiving the 1998 Rose Vormelker Award
from Special Libraries Association President Judith Field
at the SLA Awards Banquet in Indianapolis.

Larry is the head of references services at the National Institute of
Environmental Health Sciences
Library in Research Triangle Park, NC. A long-time
member of the North Carolina Chapter of SLA, Larry is highly regarded for
his strong, creative leadership as Chair of SLA's Student Academic Relations Committee.

This relatively new SLA award is given to an individual SLA member in recognition of exceptional services to the profession of special librarianship in the area of mentoring students and/or practicing professionals in the field. Larry Wright is the first recipient of the award.

In an impressive and generous gesture, Wright donated his $500 travel expenses from the Vormelker Award to SLA student member Tim Marchand from the Western Canada Chapter. That money will enable Tim to travel to the SLA conference in Minneapolis in June, 1999.
